Weekly I’ll have something new to learn or an easy task to make.

(There it’s still normal threads and lessons combined in too.) All the debate and tasks will involve using sewing machines. There would have been a few give sewing posts, but I’m going to be focusing mostly on sewing with a machine. You’ll know it’s area of the Sewing 101 Collection since you’ll see that great logo. (above)

Today I’ll begin the line discussing something really basic:

Learning your sewing machine.
Every sewing machine differs, nevertheless the same.

Think of it like a car. You may get an applied one, an classic one, your fundamental design, the top of the point luxury model or something between – perfect for the family. They all allow you to get from A to W (I suggest sew), but they also have different characteristics, prime speeds, and sense various as you sew with them. And yes, being a vehicle, particular machines are designed a lot better than others.

That you do not desire a nice unit to start. Something simple will work. Understand what you need and you are able to always update later.

The two (working) sewing devices I have in my own house are very basic. A Artist Confidence 7470 and a Janome Hi Cat machine (which goes to my six year old). Both get the work performed, but have very different feels. I actually do all of my sewing on the Artist — actually the quilting.

My artist is not really a the the top of point equipment, but it’s actually nice. It works great and has most of the features I need.
